According to the Spanish mission in NATO, diplomat Javier Colomina was appointed NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
In addition to that, Colomina will also serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, congratulated Javier Colomina on his appointment and stated: “Georgia is strongly committed to its goal to become the member of the Alliance. I am sure, through joint efforts we will achieve tangible results.”
Colomina’s predecessor, James Appathurai had occupied the post for the last 11 years, since 2010. In July 2021, Appathurai has been awarded the order of the Golden Fleece by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili for “outstanding personal contribution” to the deepening of Georgia-NATO relations and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and his support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
