Jony Ive: I feel like I’m living two years in the future. Read more👇🏻 Because his job involves dreaming up Apple’s next products, Jony Ive says he feels like he’s constantly living “two years in the future.” That’s one of the insights that emerges from a new interview with Ive and Kim Jones, creative director of Dior Men. While short on specifics about Apple’s future plans, it sheds light on Ive’s design process. It also reveals some of the challenges that accompany his role. Other interesting insights include Ive discussing the frustration involved when innovating right on the cusp of what’s possible: ✔️ “[Sometimes] we have an idea that’s beyond the enabling technology. When we’re absolutely certain that the idea can’t even be prototyped. So often, we have ideas and we’re waiting and working on the technology that will enable the idea. It’s just a strange sort of patience that’s necessary when you feel really good about a direction and an idea, and you just have to wait for the technology to mature.” ✔️ “We have a big team of material scientists and what we’ve found is that with the material, there are so many different attributes that range from a sort of physical performance to an environmental performance, down to color and texture. We’re constantly either improving existing materials we use, like glass and aluminum, and then we’re developing new materials that might have a very specific application or that might have much broader applications. So much of our design starts with the material and trying to better understand the material.” Elsewhere in the conversation, Ive describes himself as “absurdly, frantically inquisitive.” He also says a key challenge is making sure the products he helps shape live up to Apple’s values. The complete interview will appear in the new issue of Document magazine, available for pre-order now. You can also read the full interview online. It definitely won’t clue you into Apple’s future product pipeline. But it’s an interesting (albeit designer-y) discussion about Ive’s important job.

Diana, Princess of Wales, Rihanna or Kate Moss: who wore the revenge dress best?
Diana, Princess of Wales, November 1994 The press was left open-mouthed when Diana, Princess of Wales went to a party at the Serpentine Gallery in this jaw-dropping black mini dress, in the middle of the media storm that followed her separation from Prince Charles. The shoulder-baring black cocktail dress was widely hailed as the first ever revenge dress and represented a sartorial fist pump for post break-up women everywhere. Rihanna at her third Diamond Ball, September 2017 Strictly speaking, this might not be a revenge dress, but Rihanna’s Ralph & Russo gown played direct homage to Diana, Princess of Wales. As she elaborated to Vogue Paris in the Christmas 2017 issue: “Every time a man cheats on you or treats you badly, you need a revenge dress. Every woman knows that. But whether her choice of this knockdown dress was conscious or not, I am touched by the idea that even Princess Diana could suffer like any ordinary woman. This Diana Bad Bitch moment blew me away.” Kate Moss, September 2007 After a tumultuous two-year relationship, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty finally separated in 2007. The model looked radiant in a vintage Dior silk gown for her first red carpet appearance since their split, making a case for low-key break-up elegance. Gigi Hadid, November 2015 Gigi Hadid and musician Joe Jonas separated just a few months after they had met. When she appeared at the American Music Awards shortly afterwards, Gigi walked the red carpet in a bold white crop top and split skirt, with her hair in a faux bob. Never has Gabrielle Chanel been more more right: "A woman who cuts her hair, is a woman who is preparing to change her life.” Bella Hadid, November 2016 Bella Hadid and The Weeknd found themselves back together on the runway just a few weeks after their break-up, for Victoria's Secret 2016 in Paris. With nothing more than a quick glance for her ex on-stage, the model chose super sexy Julien Macdonald for the after-party.#PrincessDiana #Rihanna #KatemoMoss #GigiHaddid #BellaHadid #Fashion #Revengedress Tbilisi

Check, Change, Go: what the UK government's latest slogan means for your holiday
Holidaymakers will soon face higher travel insurance charges and mobile phone costs, and tougher passport controls. Thank goodness for this three-word advice …Name: Holidays.Age: More than a thousand years.Wow! Did the Anglo-Saxons really take trips to Benidorm? Try to treat this seriously. Holiday is derived from the Old English word hāligdæg, meaning holy day. It was a day set aside for religious observance. The trips to Southend and beyond came later. And when did we stop taking them? That’s easier. In 2020, we abandoned holidays in the travel sense and went back to praying. Vacations out; vocations in.But seriously, do you think holidays are over? Well, the newspapers have pictures of the odd bikini-clad Brit sitting in splendid isolation beside a pool in Spain, but in reality people will be taking fewer foreign holidays this summer. Why? The information on which countries you can and can’t travel to without quarantining seems to change every day. Air travel is now even more unpleasant than before. And if you do manage to get to your four-star hotel in Ibiza, you’ll probably have to book for the pool and there will be no breakfast buffet.Oh well, it’ll have to be a staycation for me. That will please Boris Johnson, who says you will be doing your bit for the economy. But expect to have your temperature checked on arrival; there will be queues for the lift because numbers will be restricted; and you will be encouraged to eat in your room.Any other options? Adventurer and chief scout Bear Grylls is fronting a campaign to encourage children to camp out in their garden or a nearby park. It would at least be cheap. And I suppose you could have the breakfast buffet.OK, how much is a pop-up tent? I guess I’ll just have to wait until 2021 to go further afield. Indeed, but start planning now if you want to go anywhere in the EU. The government’s new Check, Change, Go ad campaign – how it loves those three-word slogans – is stressing the problems that will face holidaymakers after the end of the Brexit transition period in December. Such as? Higher travel insurance charges; higher mobile phone costs; tougher passport controls; long bureaucratic delays to get a pet passport.Project Fear? Project Reality! What does Check, Change, Go actually mean? It is being widely interpreted on social media. “Check what Boris Johnson said during the referendum campaign; change your plans to visit the EU; go back to the 1970s,” sums up the general mood. But I thought we were taking back control with an oven-ready deal that was going to save the NHS £350m a week and get us better terms than we ever had as members of the EU. You poor gullible fool. You need a holiday.Do say: “I hear New Malden is nice at this time of year.”Don’t say: “It’s two weeks in the Algarve for us this August as usual.” Continue reading...#european_union_holidays#travel#brexit #european_union

Junk food discount deals to be axed as Boris Johnson begins war on obesity
Credits Scott Barbour/Getty Images Alt Text The rise in fast food outlets has been partly blamed for Britain's obesity epidemic Government accused of mixed messages as PM plans supermarket crackdown while chancellor pushes ‘Eat Out’ scheme One-Minute Read James Ashford Friday, July 10, 2020 - 3:52pm Boris Johnson is preparing to kick off the government’s new anti-obesity drive with a ban on supermarket promotions of unhealthy food. The prime minister had previously declared himself “very libertarian” on food choices, but now says that the global outbreak of coronavirus - which has been shown to hit obese people harder - has convinced him to take action on unhealthy eating, reports The Times. See related Cartoon characters could be banned from junk food London Underground to consider ban on junk food adverts Children's online junk food ads banned by watchdog Shortly before becoming Tory leader last July, Johnson said he would end the “continuing creep of the nanny state” if he got into Downing Street, starting with a review of taxes on sugary, salty and fatty foods, as The Telegraph reported at the time. But under the new plans, expected to be unveiled within weeks, shops may be barred from offering “buy one, get one free” deals on unhealthy food. The measures are also likely to include banning sweets and chocolates from being promoted at supermarket entrances and the ends of aisles. And “restaurant and takeaway menus could be forced to include a calorie count for each meal”, reports the Daily Mirror. News of the proposals comes just days after Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled the government’s new “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme, which is intended to boost the UK’s hospitality industry by encouraging more people to dine at restaurants, cafes and pubs. Obesity campaigners told Daily Mail that it “defies belief” that ministers are considering to adopt the “sensible” plans to help millions lose weight just a day after announcing the “stupid” move to offer cut-price meals. Experts claim that the government has given a “green light for junk food” with the “Eat Out” scheme, which offers 50% discounts on meals at restaurants and fast-food chains including Burger King. იხილე მისი სტატია For the first time since probably World War II, travel — an industry that relies on human movement and employs 10% of the global workforce — completely stopped. Now, as COVID-19 recedes in some places, many countries are slowly starting to reopen to tourists. While I personally think it’s still best to wait a little longer before taking an international trip, that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking at the current situation to get a sense of how we can best plan our future trips. There are a lot of variables and everything is still changing. And that creates a lot of questions. How do you know which countries are open? How do we find out new visitation rules? Will travel insurance apply during the pandemic? What is flying going to be like? Are hotels and hostels safe? What attractions are open? To help you figure out what to do and where to find information, I created this post to get the ball rolling. 'It's a miracle': hundreds of thousands of bees🐝🐝🐝 survive Notre Dame fire👇🏻 - - - Following the tragedy of Monday’s fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, news came on Friday of a miracle as sweet as honey. The hundreds of thousands of bees that lived in hives inside Notre Dame’s roof are alive and well, according to the beekeeper, or apiculteur, that oversees them. “Thank goodness the flames didn’t touch them,” Nicolas Géant, the hives’ 51-year-old beekeeper, told CNN. “It’s a miracle.” Three hives that are home to an estimated 60,000 bees each – 180,000 bees in total – are located on a lower roof atop the cathedral’s first floor. The flames of Monday’s fire – which investigators say was probably caused by an electrical short circuit – took down the cathedral’s spire and a large portion of its roof. For a few days after the fire, Géant was worried about his beloved bees, and the French police and firefighters wouldn’t let him go up on the roof to check on them. Hopes that the bees survived rested on aerial photos of the cathedral’s roof, which showed the hives still intact. “You see that everything is burnt, there are holes in the roof, but you can still see the three beehives,” Géant told NBC News on Wednesday.
