How Georgia's Prime Minister Got His EU Story Totally Wrong

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze recently took a bold step in the world of creative storytelling, claiming that Italy, Spain, and three other EU countries had "protected the interests of the Georgian people" at a key EU meeting on December 16. Problem is, Italy and Spain had absolutely none of it.
Kobakhidze’s heroic tale had him thanking Italy, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania for standing by Georgia. But Italy wasn’t having it. They shot back, making it clear that they fully supported EU sanctions and condemned the violence in Georgia - pretty much the opposite of what the Prime Minister suggested. Spain joined in, stressing its concerns about civil rights and disinformation, while Romania chimed in, calling out the "inaccurate presentation" of the whole thing.
What really happened at the EU meeting? The EU started the process of canceling visa-free travel for Georgian officials (a real "oops" moment) but decided not to slap sanctions on "Georgian Dream" leaders - something Kobakhidze clearly forgot to mention. Looks like the Prime Minister got a little too creative with his EU narrative.
